AsiaInfo Buys Trend Micro’s Chinese Security Services

AsiaInfo will acquire all of Trend Micro's businesses in China, including over 100 core technologies and intellectual property rights.

Meanwhile, AsiaInfo will establish an independent security technology company, which will integrate AsiaInfo's existing communications security technologies with Trend Micro's cloud and big data security technologies.

He Zheng, chairman of AsiaInfo's security department, said that the acquisition of Trend Micro's Chinese businesses represents a key step towards AsiaInfo's strategic goal, which is to become a leader in the industrial Internet sector. With this acquisition, Chinese enterprise will gain the world's leading technologies and products related to cloud security. It has an important and far-reaching significance to China's national network security and cloud industry security.

On the completion of the acquisition, AsiaInfo security will be able to provide industrial Internet comprehensive security software. The company's leading advantages in the communications industry will be further expanded into other sectors such as finance, education, manufacturing, and healthcare.

Zhang Fan, former general manager of telecom business unit of AsiaInfo, will be president of AsiaInfo security. Zhang said the acquisition enriches AsiaInfo Group's information security product architecture, strengthening their advantage in both customization and integration. The agreement will not only provide a broader market for future growth, but also protect national security through the creation of independent control of information technology development.

The acquisition is expected to close by the end of 2015. Financial terms of the security deal were not be disclosed.
